  1. Dorothy-Jane Dorothy-Jane is a Canberra-based Australian singer, songwriter and blues-harp player. Since 1995 she has performed in and fronted numerous Blues, Jazz and Roots acts, released 8 albums and 2 EP’s. Her lyrics, performance and presence are brave and unpretentious. She is a survivor, willing and able to bare her soul through her music. Dorothy-Jane is driven to use her music as a platform to shed light on dark topics. Her songs draw on her lived experiences – cancer, addictions, mental health, relationships and sexual abuse to name a few. Her latest album, The Witness, will be launched on March 22nd 4pm at Smith’s Alternative. “Powerful, thought provoking, socially important” – David Pendragon, The Studio ACT. 2. Kim Yang Music Kim is a folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is proud of her Taiwanese heritage. Last year she played her first festival gig at the National Folk Festival and went on tour for her debut EP Ocean of Mind.

With Kim's ethereal blend of sounds, she creates music that balances delicately between vulnerability and power. Kim's songs speak from her experiences as a partner, a daughter, a traveller and an insecure soul, she's looking forward to sharing more new music with the world this year.

  1. Lisa Maps With a voice once described as ‘too big for the pub’ and a heart proudly worn on her sleeve, Lisa is a uniquely engaging performer. A child of the singer-songwriter tradition, she is a storyteller who takes inspiration from all aspects of life, from romance and personal growth through to video games.

A generation xennial who escaped the rat race to chase a dream, she is also a proud DIY musician, and released her self-produced debut EP ‘Colours’ in 2019.

  1. Lucy Ridge & the Derby Widows Lucy Ridge and the Derby Widows are a high energy soul band from Canberra fronted by the sheer raw talent that is Lucy Ridge. Influenced by Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Tower of Power, Lucy is a bit of a tower of power herself with years of experience wailing out the front of big bands, captivating audiences with her vocal supremacy and stage charisma. Backed by an all-star Canberra super group (featuring members of Tonk, Traxion, Rumblr, Brother Be & The Barren Spinsters), Lucy Ridge and the Derby Widows are a 7-piece soul force to be reckoned with. Deep grooves, high notes and almost everything you’ve ever wanted in between, the Derby Widows have got you covered for a groovalicious good time. Gearing up for world domination, the band has been busy performing at Bendigo Blues & Roots Festival (2019), Canberra Live Festival (2019) and the Merimbula Jazz Festival later this year.

  1. Tennessine Imagine Mazzy Star, Neil Young and Lucinda Williams had a family of four, who played together with pretty, trippy vocals and harmonies, electric and acoustic guitars, bass and magnificent violin playing. Throw in some banjo and e bow for good measure and you have a sonic picture of Tennessine, a four piece from the north and south of Canberra.

Formed in the second half of 2019, Tennessine play original songs written by guitarist, singer, banjo player. Jenny Spear. Joined by the lovely Laura Milkovits on guitar (the Baby Shakers, Okinawa Girls and the Careerists), the inimitable Adrian Stopford (the Undermines, Would Wood, Gen A and countless other outfits) on bass and vocals, and last but not least, violinist extraordinaire Juanita Du Plessis (Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dreamlanders), this outfit surfs the genres of folk, roots, blues and dark country with a nod to the ethereal and to the promotion of animal friendly rehearsals.
