Indie folk singer-songwriter Kim Yang writes songs that speak from her experiences as a partner, a daughter, a traveller and an insecure soul. Her ethereal blend of sounds balances delicately between vulnerability and power.

Her first single of 2020 Garden of Eden was aired on triple J radio and received 4.5 stars from Roots ‘n’ All host, Nkechi Anele, who said: ‘Kim Yang is a force of nature, and she humbles me’. In late 2020 Kim released her latest single ‘Dominoes', which was premiered on triple J radio's Roots 'n’ All.

Kim performed at the National Folk Festival, Good Folk 2021, Enlighten Festival, and Stage88 Australia Day Concert with James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Kingswood and Fanny Lumsden in 2021.

Kim’s actively involved in the ACT music community; she organised the International Women's Day Concert 2020, gathering female musicians of Canberra and the general public. Kim shares her musical talent with bands such as Muddy Wolfe and Iboga Gazebo (Richard Ploog, former member of The Church). In 2019 Kim went on tour for her debut EP Ocean of Mind after a sold-out EP launch. She has supported ARIA and APRA-awarded artists Tori ForsythJosh Pyke and Ben Lee on their tours to Canberra.

“I used to be a shy person. I buried my feelings and refused to open up to others. But music and songwriting have helped me express myself. My mission is to encourage all people to be comfortable with themselves, and to be confident enough to embrace their passions and share their stories. Once you do you will find that your stories and experiences resonate with many others. After all, you are not alone” (Kim Yang)

Quotes

Breathe taking; I felt like Kim had grabbed me by the hand and carried me through an amazing secret garden. There is a stillness in this much like walking through a forest, aware of how small we are in comparison to nature. It's humbling. Kim Yang is a force of nature, and she humbles me.”

Nkechi Anele, Triple J radio

Kim Yang creates music for the soul. With her ethereal blend of sounds, she creates music that balances delicately between vulnerability and power. It feels simultaneously grounded and exploratory; it’s rooted in acoustic folk, but reaches far wider...”
