This is the debut album by Taiwanese-Australian singer-songwriter Kim Yang. The album explores Kim’s thoughts on identity, purpose, fear, and anxiety. The essence of the album is Kim’s journey from self-doubt, to self-discovery, to self-acceptance.
The name ‘Turn On The Lights’ signifies Kim’s acceptance of herself as an immigrant, a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman, and someone who has struggled with mental health challenges. Coming out of the darkness of insecurities and uncertainties, Kim is now finally comfortable to put herself in the spotlight and share her stories with the world.
This album is built on international collaborations, reflecting Kim’s journeys across the globe. It features four songs cultivated in international collaborations in English and Mandarin with Australian artist Katie Wighton (All Our Exes Lives in Texas), Welsh artist Cara Hammond, and Hong Kong-Canadian artist Tennyson King. The album is produced by Naarm/Melbourne based producer Louis Montgomery, and includes instrumental performances from artists across Australia.
