Lisa Maps: Colours pre-EP launch with special guest Kim Yang

Beyond Q Bookstore Cafe, Weston Arcade, Brierly Street, Weston 2611

Up-and-coming Canberra singer-songwriter Lisa Maps brings her unique blend of contemporary folk-pop to Beyond Q books to celebrate her debut release, ‘Colours’.

What began as a plan to produce some simple recordings of a few songs – a ‘pre-EP’ – quickly escalated as Lisa spent the second half of 2018 discovering the wonders of electric guitars and virtual instruments. The end result is an endearing mixture including some heartfelt acoustic performances and a little experimental electro-folk, with a vibrant, folk-pop anthem as its title track. Colours is an exploration of the importance, as well as the difficulty, of being yourself, and it transcends the bedroom in which it was recorded.

Joining Lisa for the evening is Kim Yang, a singer-songwriter who started her music journey in her hometown Taipei and now sings in the streets and cafes of Australia. Kim’s subtle guitar/ukulele playing and ethereal voice capture the attention of passers-by. Her original songs speak from her lived experiences as a young adult, a partner, a daughter, a sister, a friend and an insecure soul. She is combining these stories with a mixture of folk, pop, jazz and blues.

Don’t miss your chance to see these two sharing the stage at Beyond Q – you can get in for just $10 and take home your copy of Colours at a special launch day discount.
